Data Archive Services
The Odum Institute maintains one of the oldest and largest catalog of machine-readable data in the U.S. It has an extensive collection of U.S. Census data, including one of the most complete holdings for 1970 Census files. Other major sources of data include the North Carolina State Data Center, which distributes North Carolina census data; and the National Center for Health Statistics.
This site contains documentation and downloadable data files of
North Carolina Vital Statistics. The data and documentation are provided by the North Carolina State Center for Health Statistics.
The Odum Institute encourages researchers to deposit their data with the Institute. Data on any social science or health topic are welcome. We would be especially grateful for state polls and Southern data.
Data archived with the Institute will be made available on the Institute's Web site at no cost to depositors or users. Benefits to depositors include inclusion of deposited data in the Institute's electronic catalog of holdings and, for public opinion data, inclusion in our public opinion item index, which allows online free-text searching.
